We've got some great news for you, champions of Eterra; your hack-and-slash efforts have not been in vain. We can confirm that Last Epoch will not have character wipes at all!

Mike Weicker, a Senior Developer on Last Epoch, explained to fans that:

We have no plans to wipe characters. Sometimes, we make horrible mistakes, and things go terribly wrong, and it’s possible that could happen, but we have no plans to wipe any characters.

It is important to note that this includes characters from Early Access. Yes, no Last Epoch Early Access characters will get wiped! They will, however, get moved to the Legacy Realm with their stashes, so you can continue playing for as long as you like. You will not, however, be able to use your Early Access Last Epoch characters in the new Cycle!

In Last Epoch, there are Cycles, and the first one is for version 1.0 with the game's full release. Cycles are like Seasons in Diablo or Leagues in Path of Exile. Players must create a new character to play in the current Cycle and compete on the leaderboards.

According to the in-game notification, cycles in Last Epoch are expected to last three to four months. But what happens when the current Cycle ends? Well, except for a new one beginning (obviously!), your old characters will be transferred to the Legacy Realm with their stashes and all items intact, so you can enjoy them for as long as you like. The developers explained that:

As 1.0 starts, a new ladder will start and everyone who wants to compete on the new ladder will need to start a new character. There will not be any content differences between cycle and non-cycle characters. So if you don’t care about the ladder at all and want to just keep playing on your character you’ve been playing on before that’s totally fine.

The developers explained the Cycle system in Last Epoch and confirmed no character wipes are coming in a dev stream video. Check it out below with the discussion about Cycles starting around 23 minutes.

So there you have it. There is no such thing as character wipes in Last Epoch, and at the end of a Cycle, your characters get moved to the Legacy Realm. If anything changes (unlikely), we will endeavor to update this article with haste.
