G2 Esports stun SKT to face FPX in Worlds 2019 Final

G2 Esports will be going to Paris for the 2019 World Championship Final against FunPlus Phoenix after defeating LoL esports titans SK Telecom T1 in an intense semifinal.

Despite falling behind in gold and kills frequently, G2 were able to claw games back on multiple occasions including game three that saw them defeat SKT despite the latter having the Baron buff.

Some have joked that the Worlds 2019 theme song, Phoenix, had predicted the semifinals.

With FunPlus Phoenix in the final, it looks to be theirs for the taking after eliminating the reigning champios Invictus Gaming.

Mid laner Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang has now outlived the Unkillable Demon King himself Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok at the tournament.

However, G2 are fighting for more than the title.

They have proven themselves to be the strongest LEC team by a length and a victory at Worlds would secure the first ever LoL Grand Slam after already winning Spring Split, Summer Split and the MSI Midseason Invitational this year.

G2 have their own video with their very own prophecy they hope to fulfill. As all of the doubts around Luka "Perkz" Perković and G2 are stated, the final assertions are that 'You will never be the best, you will never be a legend and you definitely won't win Worlds' before Perkz responds with one simple phrase...

The hopes of the West lie on the shoulders of G2 and the former midlaner's role change to AD carry will be fully tested by FunPlus Phoenix on Sunday 10th November at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris.

To watch the best-of-five final, visit the Riot Games Twitch or YouTube channel at 12:00 GMT (07:00 ET / 14:00 CEST). There will also be an appearance by Riot's latest virtual band True Damage performing their debut single Giants.
