Both upcoming RPGs Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) and Wuthering Waves (WW) have recently received their publishing license in China. For those unaware, games must attain a publishing license before they are able to be released in China. According to the National Press and Publication Association (NPPA), 87 new titles, including ZZZ and WW, have been approved and can be released at any time at the developer's discretion.
Zenless Zone Zero is the next title produced by mobile gaming titans HoYoverse, while Wuthering Waves is being developed by Guangzhou Kuro Technology, the team behind the hugely popular Punishing: Gray Raven (which also recently received a PC client).
Both of these titles have been highly anticipated for a long time, with very few closed-betas and hype trailers over the past few years to keep waiting fans engaged. The recently released HoYoverse title, Honkai Star Rail, had to jump through similar hurdles to be set free finally. However, after being approved by the NPPA, more marketing and a release date followed soon after.
Hopefully, this will also be the case for Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves. While a 2023 release would be very generous, these titles will likely undergo at least one more closed-beta test (similar to Honkai Star Rail) before they are finally accessible by the general public. Still, with two powerhouses like these on the horizon, 2024 is shaping up to be a very interesting year for the mobile gamer!
