The original Persona 5 introduced the fan-favorite gameplay mechanic Baton Pass, which lets you execute follow-up attacks that deal increased damage. While it only stacks up three times, Baton Pass can be a game-changer in Persona 5, especially in challenging encounters like the Okumura boss fight.

Suffice it to say, Baton Pass completely overhauled Persona's combat, so much so that going back to games like Persona 3 and 4 after Persona 5 became increasingly difficult. However, with Persona 5 Tactica being a brand new entry in the series, you may wonder if it retains the incredibly popular gameplay element despite having vastly different gameplay.

Yes, you can baton pass in Persona 5 Tactica. However, in this game, it's a defensive ability instead of an offensive. The Baton Pass becomes available after you have rescued Ann and Futaba from the Tyrant Marie.

How Does Baton Pass Work In Persona 5 Tactica?

Once it's available, every time one of your party members gets knocked down, you can swap them with a standby unit. This is Baton Pass in Persona 5 Tactica, and you can only use it a limited number of times in a battle.

The number of Baton passes you can use in a battle depends on the game's difficulty. On Easy and Normal, you can perform up to three Baton Passes, whereas on Hard and Merciless, you can use it two times and one time, respectively.

If you play in safe mode, you can Baton Pass to all standby units. Furthermore, if every party member, including the standby ones, gets knocked out, everyone gets revived, and the battle continues from there.
