How To Get Marks In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Here is everything you need to know about getting Marks in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
How To Get Marks In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Marks are making a return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! For those unaware, Marks are small markings on a Pokémon that may appear when caught. Like Shiny Pokémon, Marks have no in-game effect on a Pokémon's stats or other attributes. They are just another level of rarity that gives huge bragging rights to those who own a specially marked Pokémon!

As you can imagine, finding a Pokémon with a mark is not an easy task. And, for the truly dedicated trainers, finding a Shiny Pokémon with a mark is even more difficult! However, finding rare Marks is not impossible. This article will cover how you can acquire Marks in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How To Get Marks In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have only just been released, so we don't know everything about how Marks will function in the Generation IX games yet. However, they will likely function the same way they did in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Some Marks are determined by the environment in which a Pokémon was caught, while other Marks are just assigned randomly to a Pokémon upon capture. Additionally, every Mark has a different probability rate for whether or not it will be assigned to a certain Pokémon.

If the odds remain the same in Scarlet and Violet as they did in Sword and Shield, then the following rates should apply to Marks in Generation IX:

  • Weather / Time of Day: 1/50
  • Random Marks: 1/100 - 1/1000

It should also be noted that Marks can only be acquired by catching Pokémon in the wild. You cannot acquire Marks by hatching eggs. This makes trying to get a shiny Pokémon with a Mark that much harder, as you can no longer use the Masuda breeding method to increase your overall shiny odds.

The only Mark currently known about in-game is the "Mightiest Mark." Its description is as follows: "A Mark for a Pokémon caught in a seven-star Tera Raid Battle." It is unknown whether high-ranking Tera Raid battle bosses will have guaranteed Marks when captured, but we will update this page as soon as more information is available. Additionally, we will endeavor to add a complete list of Marks as they are discovered. That's all about Pokemon Violet & Scarlet Marks.
