One of the most posed questions prior to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl release was how HMs were going to work. In the past few Pokémon titles, Game Freak has been transitioning HMs out of the game. However, the original Diamond and Pearl games relied heavily on the use of hidden machines.

As fans know by now, HMs are a part of the game in full but players don’t have to teach them to Pokémon anymore. While this is great for movesets, it’s somewhat challenging for newer players to find where the HMs are located. One of the most integral HMs for players to know about is Fly, as it allows players to get across the map within seconds.

Players can learn where to find Fly in the guide below.

To find Fly, you will need to have made it to Veilstone City and defeated the Gym Leader there, Maylene. After beating the Gym, you will be approached by your friend (Dawn or Lucas). They will tell you they need help defeating some Team Galactic grunts who stole their Pokédex. You can find it on the western side of the city, next to a warehouse.

Defeat the grunts with your friend, which isn’t too challenging to do. Once done, you can enter the warehouse the grunts were blocking the entrance to. Inside, you will see a Poké Ball, which contains the HM for Fly. You can now use the HM for Fly directly from your Pokétch and fly to any town you desire. You also have the ability to teach the TM for Fly to any one of flying-type Pokémon.
