Not every player has access to a friend or a second Nintendo Switch to trade to, making trade evolutions a near impossibility. However, some Pokémon go beyond just needing to be traded to evolve and require an additional held item as well.
Magmortar is one of these Pokémon, requiring a Magmarizer to evolve in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Finding the Magmarizer in Pokémon BDSP
Currently, the only way to obtain a Magmarizer in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is by catching wild Magby. The Pokémon has a chance to be holding the item so you simply need to catch one, check if it’s holding a Magmarizer and then go from there. If it is holding one, you can give it to Magmar, trade it and then you’ll have your Magmortar.
However, if Magby isn’t holding the item, then you need to catch another and repeat the process until you find one that has it. To find wild Magby, you need to head into the Grand Underground and search in the following caves:
- Volcanic Cave
- Typhlo Cave
- Sandsear Cave
There are no game requirements to encounter Magby, so you can check these caves as soon as you get the Explorer’s Kit from Eterna City.
This is the only way to find the Magmarizer in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
