Pokémon GO, one of the most popular augmented reality mobile games at the moment, is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Niantic has released a video on YouTube to thank and share real-life experiences of the Pokémon Trainers.

The game was launched in 2016 and has been one of the highest-grossing games in the world. Pokémon GO has crossed one billion downloads on mobile devices and has a huge community of players across 150+
countries.

Meanwhile, Omar Tellez, the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships in Niantic, highlighted the company's focus on India and revealed that India has always been Pokémon GO's key market. In addition to this, he has announced that Niantic will be organizing conversations, events, celebrations, and outreach dedicated to India in the future.

“We are elated to surpass the 5-year milestone, and as the game embodies, the journey of exploring new possibilities has just begun! We have been present in India from the beginning and have built a thriving community of Pokémon GO trainers." Omar Tellez said. "Through 2020 and 2021, India has ranked among our key growth markets. We are now taking this relationship to the next level with dedicated conversations, events, celebrations, and outreach in the coming months.”

Niantic has started intensifying its focus in the Indian market from the past couple of months by launching country-specific Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages along with recruiting staff to reach more Indian users in the region.

They will also be using local partnerships to increase the player base in India. In the past five years, the country has been revolutionary in terms of mobile and data revolution and had around 365 million mobile gamers in 2020. As per the report by InMobi and Mobile Marketing Association, the mobile gaming market in India is expected to reach $3 billion by 2023 compared to $1.2 billion in 2020.
