A massive sword stuck in a rock? Check. Lightning strikes? Double check. Excalibur has officially arrived in Dead Rails, and it might just be the most broken melee weapon in the game. But before you start zapping zombies into charcoal, you’ll need to conquer a whole prison—and its cannon-toting boss.
Here's how to get the Excalibur sword in Dead Rail, including some tips to help you take down Goliath in Stillwater Prison.
Where To Find Excalibur In Dead Rails
To get your hands on Excalibur in Dead Rails, go to Stillwater Prison. It’s a full landmark with a medieval flair, occupied by sword-wielding prisoners and crossbow guards who are somehow immune to the zombie virus. Bring plenty of ammo—these guys don’t go down easily!
Once you've cleared out the attackers, head to the central courtyard where you should spot a glowing sword embedded in a rock. But don't touch it just yet. Grabbing the sword summons Goliath, the new mini-boss who literally explodes through the wall with a cannon in hand.
How To Beat Goliath In Dead Rails
Goliath might look terrifying, but he's surprisingly easy to outplay. He tends to get stuck on terrain, and with just a bottle of Snake Oil, you can outrun him easily, even while holding melee weapons. He does heavy damage if you get caught in close quarters, but his AI can be manipulated by moving through doorways and stairwells.
You can also bait him into getting stuck in the lower courtyard or trapped on walls, especially if you enter the building near the tower. Once he’s locked in place, swing away. Players using default or mid-tier classes like Cowboy have managed to bring him down with no special perks.
Once you defeat Goliath, you can claim Excalibur in Dead Rails. And it's absolutely busted. This melee weapon has a 20% chance to strike enemies with lightning, but in practice, it often procs multiple times in a row. You can swing it rapidly, it doesn’t use ammo, and it absolutely melts zombies and bosses alike. You’ll be dishing out AoE lightning strikes in seconds.
That’s everything you need to know about getting Excalibur in Dead Rails. I hope this helps!
