Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series – Premiere date, how to watch and more

Lucasfilm's upcoming series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, has sent beloved Star Wars fans into a complete hyperdrive ever since it was officially announced at Disney's D23 Convention last year. Much of the excitement surrounding the series is highlighted by the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen more than a decade following their previous appearances.

Since we're just days away from its worldwide premiere on Disney+ this month, there's plenty to unpack before catching up with the Galaxy's favorite Jedi Master. With that being said, here's everything you need to know about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, including its premiere date, how to watch it, and more.

What is the plot of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series?

Set ten years following the events of Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the series follows an aged, faithless, and embattled former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Carefully watching over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, Kenobi will also be embarking on a new yet dangerous mission that will see him face new threats and travel beyond the dunes of Tatooine.

Likewise, his presence attracts the attention of the Galactic Empire, which could jeopardize the location of the young Skywalker. Additionally, Kenobi will come face-to-face with a familiar face and formidable foe in Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader.

Obi-Wan Kenobi series casting and characters

The Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series will feature a cast of mostly new characters; many are lifted from Star Wars novelizations. Additionally, we'll see returning characters from the Prequel trilogy, which will set up "the rematch of the century."

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader. The actors last portrayed these roles in Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, released in 2005, nearly 17 years before the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

  • Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader
  • Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars
  • Bonnie Piesse as Beru Whitesun Lars
  • Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor
  • Moses Ingram as Reva / the Third Sister
  • Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother

Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, and Maya Erskine all have roles in this limited series. In addition, Grant Feely will play the part of the young Luke Skywalker that appeared in the trailer.

The Star Wars limited series was initially set to premiere on 25th May 2022 on the streaming service, Disney+; however, it was moved to a new date two days later, on 27th May 2022. The initial release date was meant to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the release of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Additionally, the series premiere will clash with the start of the upcoming Star Wars convention, Star Wars Celebration, which will run from 26th-29th May 2022. Lucasfilm will be releasing two episodes on its premiere date, with every other episode to be released every Wednesday, concluding on 22nd June 2022.

How many episodes will there be of Obi-Wan Kenobi?

The limited series will feature six episodes; however, according to the series' official IMDb page, there are no synopsis or running times available. Nevertheless, various reports suggest that each episode will vary between 40 to 50 minutes in length, but this has yet to be confirmed.

We will provide weekly episode breakdowns and reviews for the latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, plus our final thoughts on what to expect in the following episode. You can read our official episode guides below.

How to watch Obi-Wan Kenobi?

As mentioned earlier, the Star Wars limited series will premiere on Disney+, as with previous Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios properties like Moon Knight. While Disney has aired the Star Wars series on Fridays, with Wednesdays reserved for MCU series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, will instead have episodes released on Wednesday, except for its premiere.

This will see the series compete with Marvel Studios' Ms. Marvel series, which will premiere on 8th June 2022 on the platform. Whether this was a galactic error on behalf of C3PO and R2D2 remains to be seen, but it should delight both Star Wars and Marvel fans.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on 27th May 2022, and episodes will stream every Wednesday at 12 am PT / 3 am ET.
