Lucasfilm surprised many Star Wars fans when they shadowdropped the official release date announcement for the upcoming live-action series, The Acolyte. Accompanying a teaser poster and official logline for the series, Lucasfilm confirmed that it will be premiering on Disney+ on 4th June 2024.

The series was first announced at the Star Wars Celebration 2020 event and received a much-needed update that will soon be coming to the streaming platform during the themed fan convention last year. This marks the second confirmed Star Wars series slated for 2024 as the final season of The Bad Batch is currently airing, and no release date has been announced for The Skeleton Crew or Andor Season 2, the latter of which wrapped production this year, according to its lead actor, Diego Luna.

19th March 2024 Update: Lucasfilm released the official trailer for The Acolyte, available to watch at StarWars.com, their social media channels, and their YouTube channel. The original reporting continues below.

According to the official logline on StarWars.com, The Acolyte follows "an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…."

The series stars Amandla Stenberg and Squid Game actor Lee Jung-jae in leading roles, with Stenberg and the South Korean actor portraying the Jedi Master and warrior, respectively. Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss round out the cast; however, their roles have yet to be determined.

Star Wars fans have patiently awaited news for The Acolyte, which will detail the period of The High Republic, explored in multiple novelizations over the years. The era of the High Republic has never been explored in live-action projects over the years, with a few references being made, as the events of The Acolyte take place many years before Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

Lucasfilm confirms the official trailer for The Acolyte to be dropped on 19th March 2024 digitally at the official Star Wars website, various social media channels, and its YouTube channel.
