Star Wars Jedi Survivor – Release date, trailer, gameplay and more

Cal Kestis and BD-1 are returning for a harrowing adventure in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. A trailer debuted in front of a massive crowd during the Day Two activities at Star Wars Celebration.

First announced in January 2022 by developer Respawn Entertainment, players will have to wait a little longer to meet with Cal and BD-1. We’ve detailed everything about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, including the release date, trailer, gameplay features, and more.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Release Date and Trailer

Developer Respawn Entertainment revealed the official teaser trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on Day Two of Star Wars Celebration, which is set for a 2023 release. Unfortunately, the exact release date is not known at this time. Nevertheless, the next chapter in Cal Kestis and BD-1’s journey across the galaxy far, far away will be dangerous as they’ll have to struggle to survive in a world ruled by the Galactic Empire.

While Cal and BD-1 will depend on each other throughout their journey, they’ll turn to familiar and new allies for assistance and support. Cal may not have his original lightsaber to progress in his journey in Jedi: Survivor; instead, he’ll be wielding a new one, as seen in the official teaser trailer.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor –  Story and Plot

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place five years following the events of its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. As the Galactic Empire continues to invest their pursuits in tracking Cal and his droid companion, BD-1, the Jedi carries the weight of the galaxy as possibly the last Jedi standing.

During their adventures to evade the Empire, the Jedi and his droid will meet “unique and interesting characters” who could help or deter them. At the same time, Cal learns and develops new abilities as he expands his connections with the Force.

Bridging the narrative gap between Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor was something the development team at Respawn Entertainment had worked on before Jedi: Fallen Order was completed. “Cal and the crew are going to evolve and grow, how we’re going to approach the worlds and the levels in the game, and expand them and make them more vibrant than they’ve been in the past,” game director Stig Asmussen commented.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Gameplay Features

As Cal has to learn to adapt and survive during the era of the Galactic Empire, naturally, Cal is looking to enhance his existing Force abilities and connections in “new and innovative ways.” According to the game’s press release, Asmussen commented on how the technology helped them achieve more while solving creative problems they faced.

“For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times.”

He revealed that Jedi: Survivor will include next-gen improvements and features like ray tracing and fast loading times speeds. Asmussen explained that the team also explored the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller's Haptic Feedback technology, which he described as "interesting," making the game's development "an easier process."

Respawn Entertainment announced that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be arriving to console and PC in 2023. The official release date will be confirmed by the developer at a later stage.
