31 January 2024 - State of the Game Reveals The Axearang

A new Terraria State of the Game has been released for January 2024 and it gives us a few new details about the upcoming 1.4.5 update.

"What started as a "quick and short" update to add our side of the Terraria x Dead Cells crossover content has morphed into a much larger update that we have been working on for over a year now." wrote Head of business strategy Ted ‘Loki’ Murphy.

"The team is currently going over more plans and ideas in regards to what else might make it into 1.4.5, timelines, etc. More on that later. For now, let's take a sneak peek at another of the Tree vs Axe war prizes as well as a bit of slimy goodness!"

1 December 2023 - New 1.4.5 Features Revealed

There's time for one last state of the game blog for 2023, and it's revealed a few new details about update 1.4.5 coming next year:

"The team has once again been hard at work, adding more and more fun stuff to Terraria 1.4.5. Things will start to wind down for the year once we get into the second half of December, but we are planning to finish the year strong in order to give us a ton of momentum as we head into 2024. As for spoilers this month, we thought we might show a couple of things that are small but really cool. Shall we?"

"We are not sure how the fish in Terraria stayed invisible all this time, but now you can see what you might be reeling in while fishing!"

"You may have found yourself thinking what Terraria might feel like "back in the days" on a good old CRT... well wonder no more! (archaic hookups not required)"

"Know what sucks? Having to stare at your dead character, not even knowing how that epic boss fight is going. Now you can cheer on from the sidelines as you await your respawn with the new Spectate feature! No more updates on Crossplay timing just yet - other than to reiterate that we expect it will be a post-1.4.5 addition, assuming we are successful with first-party reviews, etc."

23 October 2023 - Next Update Delayed to 2024

The latest Terraria State of the Game blog post for October 2023 has confirmed that the upcoming 1.4.5 Update has been delayed to 2024.

The post said that the team “is feeling really great about what we have in game thus far, as well as what we still have planned to add before we can call 1.4.5 complete.”

However, the blog post then informed fans that whilst there is no estimate on timing "it is looking increasingly likely that we are looking at a 2024 release for 1.4.5 at this point."

Although the news will come as a disappointment to fans, the devs asked fans to "Hang in there with us a bit longer, it will be worth it."

20 September 2023 - A Handy Recap

Terraria's 1.4.5 update has been in development for 9 months and in that time there's been all sorts of teasers, reveals, and spoilers.

Thankfully, ChippyGaming has managed to summarise all the main things you need to know into one handy video, which you can watch, just below:

2 September 2023 - New State of the Game Update

There's a HUGE new State of the Game update from the development team, and the TLDR appears to indicate that we're still quite a well away from the 1.4.5 Release. Read on for the full quotes:

The team playthrough has come and gone. I don't think anyone will soon forget their time in The Mad Realm of Boulders! Fun was had, TONS of notes were taken, and the benefits of this playthrough are already being seen in the work on Terraria 1.4.5.

Speaking of time, we have an update on timing for everyone. As we started to check off what work remained on the update, we realized that we would really have been remiss to not cover off some long-standing needs for new music. That's right, Terrarians, the 1.4.5 update will contain several new music tracks by our favorite composer, Scott Lloyd Shelly! How many exactly is still a bit to-be-determined, but we are anticipating at least 5 and maybe more! Want to check one of them out? Of course you do!

So, all that said, we mentioned an impact on timing - the production of all of these new tracks takes a good amount of time in composition, review, editing, etc. We are not going to rush Scott while he works on the latest in a long line of Terraria musical masterpieces. So, that means the update is going to take a bit longer to come out than we had originally anticipated. Now, before anyone gets too upset... the team realized that if we are having to wait on this music anyway, why not just keep the update development moving on our end and add even more goodies?!

What all will that entail? Well you will have to wait and see - but we have some pretty substantial ideas. How much we can get done will depend on how long the music takes. We are pretty confident everyone will be very happy with what we have in store and will feel like this was extra time well-spent. Can't show you too much too soon, though, so it will all be a mystery for now. Oh, who are we kidding, you knew we were going to show something new. Are we sure it is safe to sit on this Aetherium Furniture, much less build a whole house using it?!

Anyway, we expect this extension to be in the scope of a few months at least - we will give a timeline as we get closer. In the meantime, rest assured that everyone will get a LOT more out of 1.4.5 than you ever expected.

Terraria 1.4.5 is in the final stages of development, and testing has begun!

As per the most recent Terraria State of the Game:

"The team has started the customary group full playthrough that accompanies the end stages of development. These are very important (and fun) sessions, where we unearth any remaining pesky bugs, find anything that feels unbalanced or not fun, and - quite often - come up with some fun new ideas."

"We have been taking the time to listen to fan requests as well - and one we have heard pretty frequently is a way to see which worlds which characters have visited previously as a method to help know which character goes with which world(s)."

4 May 2023 - More News From The Latest Terraria State of the Game

Who wants a BIG update on how Terraria 1.4.5 is coming?

YouTuber James ‘ChippyGaming’ Bennett has pulled together a video on the latest Terraria State of the Game blogpost.

In addition, he recaps some of the Twitter responses from Re-Logic president Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks, who normally makes a good habit of replying to fans on Twitter.

All in all though, still no release date, but some hope it could come soon, with the devs saying: "we hope that we can provide a time frame for 1.4.5 soon".

8 March 2023 - Dev's Tease New Shimmer Squirty Gun

As spotted by the PCGamesN team, Terraria could be preparing to add a new shimmer water gun in the upcoming 1.4.5 update.

In a fairly throwaway post on Twitter, Terraria YouTuber James ‘ChippyGaming’ Bennett explained how cool it would be to have a shimmer water gun, to help with the process of changing the look of various NPC's.

Remarkably, Re-Logic president Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks replied with what looked like an image of precisely that: a shimmer water gun sprite.

Added to this, Lead artist Victor ‘Crowno’ Moura waded into the conversation to add: “Nothing like having your wish granted before you even asked for it,” which might suggest this feature was already in the works.

Either way, good news for Terraria fans who may have been growing sick of having to dunk every character or enemy in Shimmer pools.

As a result, we do not have a ton to showcase at this stage... but rest assured that when we have spoilers to share, we will do so. You know we won't be able to help ourselves!"

"We hope that at least gives you a little glimpse into what we have in store for 1.4.5. To be sure, there will be plenty more to share as development carries on. For now, here's to 2023 starting off with a bang!"
