A guide to Warden: Spilling the TFTea

Warden is a sturdy class of champion that works well when combined with hard-hitting classes. This is all you need to know about Warden and how to achieve success with it.
A guide to Warden: Spilling the TFTea

Teamfight Tactics' second set of champions came with the Rise of the Elements update that also changed League of Legends' iconic Summoner's Rift map.

Warden is one of the many classes within the Rise of the Elements Teamfight Tactics set, slow and steady champions capable of withstanding damage.

Wardens gain additional armor depending on how many Warden champions are on the field.

There are only two levels for this bonus to activate with the full set gaining an additional bonus as explained below:

  • Two = +150% armor
  • Four = +300% armor
  • Six = +999 % armor

The nine champions below are the Warden options with their cost, second class and stats for their ultimates listed:

Warden / Lunar

Cost: 1 Gold

Ultimate: Lunar Barrier - Leona reduces all damage by 40/80/120 for five seconds.

Warden / Light

Cost: 1 Gold

Ultimate: Fury of the Dawn - Nasus surrounds himself in light for seven seconds, gaining 250/400/550 maximum health and dealing 50/70/90 magic damage to adjacent enemies every second.

Warden / Electric

Cost: 1 Gold

Ultimate: Lightning Breath - Ornn breathes lightning in a cone, dealing 100/200/300 magic damage to enemies therein, and increasing their chance to be critically struck by 20% for the next four seconds.

Warden / Ocean

Cost: 2 Gold

Ultimate: Deep Sea Lantern - Thresh throws his lantern to the lowest-health ally, shielding them and nearby allies against 250/400/600 damage for five seconds.

Warden / Glacial

Cost: 2 Gold

Ultimate: Unbreakable - Braum puts up his shield for four seconds, absorbing and stopping all incoming missiles and reducing his damage taken from that direction by 70%/80%/90%.

Warden / Ocean

Cost: 3 Gold

Ultimate: Depth Charge - Nautilus sends out a depth charge that seeks out his farthest enemy, knocking them up and stunning them for three/four/six seconds. It also deals 100/200/400 magic damage to all enemies it passes through.

Warden / Mountain

Cost: 4 Gold

Ultimate: Unstoppable Force - Malphite charges to a random enemy, dealing 150/300/1000 magic damage to nearby enemies, knocking them in to the air, and stunning them for two/two and a half/five seconds.

Warden / Inferno

Cost: 5 Gold

Ultimate:  Curse of the Sad Mummy - Amumu explodes in an infernal tantrum, dealing 150/250/1337 magic damage to all enemies within three hexes and stunning them for one and a half / two / five seconds.

Warden / Crystal

Cost: 5 Gold

Ultimate:  Cosmic Radiance - After a one and a half second delay, Taric pulses cosmic energy onto allied champions within two/three/four hexes, making them invulnerable for three/three/five seconds.

Build Guide

Warden is one of the more common classes so it won't be too hard to utilise the two unit bonus in the early game with Nasus, Thresh and Leona being solid early game investments.

You can get the six Warden bonus even without all of the above champions but can choose to use a Warden's Mail on non-Warden champions.

This item can be made with a Spatula and Sparring Gloves, dropped as a full item or found in carousels following the raptors.

Pure Warden builds aren't usually able to do the same amount of damage as other classes so will need to be paired with champions able to deal damage as the Wardens support such as Assassins.

Patch 10.2 has nerfed one-cost Warden Leona and fellow Lunar champion Karma while boosting the six Warden bonus from +450% armor to +999%.

  • Leona's spell damage reduction decreased from 40/90/140 to 40/80/120
