Famed archeologist Lara Croft is returning for another outing in the animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which is currently available to stream on Netflix. The news was made on their "official companion site," Tudum, late last week, in which the streamer will team up with Legendary Television to bring more near-close escapes, more tomb raiding, and, of course, more Lara Croft.
The animated series premiered on 10th October 2024 and received generally positive reviews at its global debut on the popular streaming platform, for which a second season has officially been ordered. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft animated series follows events after Crystal Dynamics' rebooted trilogy, concluding with Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will mark the return of actress Hayley Atwell as the legendary character and showrunner Tasha Huo, who teased possible plans for Lara Croft in its second season. Speaking to Netflix Tundum, Huo envisions a "character evolution for Lara in the second season which she explained that "a shark" may be involved too.
So Season 1, thematically, is about Lara embracing how her dad dealt with grief, which was isolating. When we meet Lara, she’s very isolated … As we get into Season 2, we’re trying to build Lara’s team over the course of the show, so she goes from isolated hero who only wants to do things on her own — a lone wolf — to realizing, 'Actually, I have this really cool team behind me.'
While Lara encountered a ferocious alligator during her adventurous exploits in Season 1, Lara versus a shark might be on the cards for the legendary archeologist. Punching sharks is a nod to the classic Tomb Raider games, which was also referenced in the Angelina Jolie-led Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life film in 2003, but fans will have to wait a while as no release date for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft second season was not announced.
