Awareness of it has exploded in recent years, with colourful calavera (skulls) being seen on cheap t-shirts to expensive tequilas.
It is that slightly hack aspect of what is an important festival in Mexico that Riot hope to sidestep with their new Day of the Dead inspired Valorant skins.
The new bundle, called Nunca Olvidados which translates to "never forgotten", has employed artists intimately connected with the festivities to capture the "essence" of this all-important holiday.
As Art Director, San Marino explains:
“It was us creating [skins] to recognize Día de los Muertos that wasn’t just covering the weapon in skulls. We wanted to be as authentic as possible.”
The skins are boldly coloured with beautiful illustrations featuring flowers and people.
“We made sure to use imagery and colours that accurately represent the holiday,” explained Marino.
The skins also feature the day/night tech like that seen with the Winter Wunderland skins, however, unlike other skins players can select these via variants.
With skins for the Vandal, Bulldog, Frenzy and Ares, as well as a Mexican fighting knife it will likely find a place in many players' skin collections.
How much does the Nunca Olvidados bundle cost?
The complete bundle is expected to cost 5,100 VP or approx. $55 which makes it a Deluxe edition skin as per Riot's skin classification.
Individual skin prices will likely be 1275 VP with the Melee costing 2550 VP.
When will the
Nunca Olvidados bundle
The bundle will hit the game's in-game store from 20th October, not long after the release of the v3.08 update.
