One of the most interesting titles revealed at Microsoft's Xbox Game Showcase was Atomfall, a unique and odd single-player survival action, blending "post-war Britain with Cold War paranoia, folk horror, and elements of classic British sci-fi."
Yes, that's quite a mouthful, but the blend works wonders in the first Atomfall trailer. The player is thrown into a quarantine zone filled with red phone booths, quaint villages, and idyllic pubs five years after a nuclear "event." This event is based on a real-world nuclear disaster in 1957 (Windscale fire in October 1957), so the game plays off in an alternate 1962 timeline with mechs...
Rebellion explains what players will be doing in Atomfall:
Explore the countryside, villages, and settlements and meet odd people, wicked cults, rogue government agencies and others along the way. Explore this open world adventure and seek out the truth at your own pace. A single player, survival-action game, Atomfall blends post-war Britain with Cold War paranoia, folk horror, and elements of classic British sci-fi to create an immersive and thrilling gameplay experience.
Rebellion will reveal more about Atomfall soon. The game has a broad "2025" release date window and is coming to PC and Xbox as a Day 1 Xbox Game Pass title.
