For fans of fighting games, the annual Evolution Championship Series (EVO 2022) was extremely exciting this year. Aside from the Professional players from all over the world competing against each other in a variety of fighting games, We also got to witness the announcements of some of the best fighting games the industry has to offer.

EVO 2022 saw announcements made for tons of games such as Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Guilty Gear: Strive, Fatal Fury/Garou, Dragon Ball FightersZ, and many more. So let's take a look at all the major fighting games that were announced this year, and what you can expect to see from the fighting game scene as time goes on.

Below we have listed all the major fighting games that were announced during EVO 2022. Some are new titles that we will be seeing for the first time, and others are rolling out some updates that will have you itching to brawl with your opponents.

  • An all-new Fatal Fury / Garou teaser trailer was revealed

  • A possible Tekken 8 teaser was revealed

  • Two new characters, Kimberly and Juri were revealed for Street Fighter 6

  • Street Fighter 6 has added James Chen and Tasty Steve as real-time commentators

  • New DLC characters for The King of Fighters XV were announced and given release dates

  • The King of Fighters XV will be receiving cross-play functionality between all platforms

  • Guilty Gear: Strive adds Bridget as a new character

  • Guilty Gear: Strive cross-play and other future updates have been outlined

  • Samurai Shodown will be updated with rollback net-code in 2023

  • Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has been updated with rollback netcode

  • Dragon Ball FighterZ will be coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with rollback net-code updates

  • MultiVersus Season 1 announced its plans during Evo 2022

  • Skullgirls 2nd Encore has announced that Marie will arrive as a DLC character

  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be adding Hugh Neutron as a DLC character

  • Melty Blood: Type Lumia will be getting a major update this year

EVO 2022 All Major Fighting Games Announced Fatal Fury / Garou

Some of the more exciting developments are the arrival of the new titles that players can't wait to see again. Such as the return of Fatal Fury / Garou after a 20-year hiatus, we were given a brief teaser trailer, and though we don't know much of the details surrounding it yet, we can't help but get hyped to know more and for the game's actual release.

There is also a possibility that Tekken 8 was teased during the video announcement from Bandai Namco, showcasing the content updates that are coming to Tekken 7 this year. Towards the end of this update video, we are shown the infamous cutscene in which anti-hero Kazuya Mishima throws his father and arch enemy, Heihachi Mishma, off a cliff, as seen at the end of the 1994 title, Tekken 1.

However, during Kazuya's final closeup, the screen flashed to reveal a seemingly brand-new 3D rendering of the character, with the words: 'GET READY.' Which could mean an official announcement for Tekken 8 is on the way.

Many of the other updates such as those for Street Fighter, The King Of Fighters, Skullgirls 2nd Encore, and others are receiving some new characters to the rosters. While others such as Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Samurai Shodown, and Dragon Ball FighterZ will be receiving rollback net-code updates, which pretty much means the perceived latency in the game will be reduced.

Last but not least, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear Strive, and The King of Fighters will be made cross-platform in time to come. Along with some general quality of life updates and overall improvements that will see the fighting genre get more action-packed and brutal over the next few months and beyond.
