SnowRunner release date, gameplay, features and more

SnowRunner was originally released back in 2020, but the game has a new release date for the players who have been waiting on next-generation consoles like PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series S/X. Even if you have already played the game, this is a great opportunity for an upgraded console experience.

The initial release of the game in 2020 wasn't the only date, and there was a second launch that included more platforms. Altogether, players have been able to play SnowRunner on Epic Games, PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch since 2021. Next-gen will join the list in the coming month.

What is the release date for SnowRunner on next-gen?

Players who are eagerly awaiting the release date for SnowRunner on next-gen platforms won't have to wait long. The official date is slated for the 31st of May 2022. That leaves almost exactly a month before the rest of the gaming world can begin driving along with everyone else.

With the new release as a native next-gen version, there are of course some technical additions that can be expected. The largest updates are the 60fps performances and the 4k resolution. Needless to say, this should be one of the crispest versions of the game to date.

Anyone who owns the game already can simply use this release as a free upgrade to a new system. Otherwise, the game will still have a standard cost for anyone new to the experience. Buying into the Season Pass will drive the price point up a bit as well, and will give players access to content in 2022, but the pass is optional.

Features and gameplay in SnowRunner

SnowRunner is a mix of a sandbox and a simulation game. To make a comparison, this is a game for anyone who enjoys trucking simulators. The difference is that there is more of a sandbox element to the overall gameplay loop.

Players are encouraged to take on contracts and continuously grow their fleet of vehicles. As missions and contracts are completed, better routes and better contracts are made available.

Of course, the main draw is the driving component itself, and that's also the source of most of the new features in the game. Compared to the previous MudRunner, there are more environments and far more licensed vehicles that can be operated for hauling goods.

Customization for vehicles is also another major component. Vehicles of all kinds can be changed for cosmetics or upgrades as players progress in their own world. They'll be able to continue all of that if they choose when the upgrade is available on the 31st of May.
