Sony is slowing down PlayStation download speeds in Europe

PlayStation players might find downloads taking longer than usual after Sony's recent announcement.
Sony is slowing down PlayStation download speeds in Europe

After companies like Netflix and YouTube cut down their streaming quality due to the Coronavirus pandemic forcing everyone indoors, Sony has followed suit for PlayStation consoles.

In a blog post, Sony announced it’s working with internet service providers in Europe to manage download traffic - warning players might have slower download speeds than usual.

“Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay,” the post reads.

“We appreciate the support and understanding from our community, and their doing their part, as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone.”

The specifics are relatively sketchy but the post doesn’t indicate this will affect multiplayer connectivity, only download speeds.

In other words, you can still enjoy Call of Duty: Warzone with friends hopefully without a hitch. If you haven’t downloaded it already though, you should probably find a boxset.

Sony is the first games console to announce a cut to internet speeds in Europe, following TV streaming companies like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Disney and Apple.
