It's hard to imagine as much a stellar year for game releases as 2023, but 2024 is looking promising. In fact, 2024's lineup of games looks vastly different from 2023, but in a good way, and should appeal to you more if you're a JPRG fan. From highly-anticipated sequels like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to long-awaited Xbox first-party exclusives like Avowed, 2024 has some big guns ready to blow out.

Persona 3 Reload

In 2006, Persona 3 changed the JRPG landscape forever with its unique social elements, lovable characters, and a deeply emotional story about friendships and death. Fast forward to now, the studio is remaking Persona 3 as Persona 3 Reload, which features state-of-the-art visuals, enhanced gameplay systems, new music from the legendary Lotus Juice, and new social elements inspired by the latter entries in the franchise, like Persona 5 Royal.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a brand new IP from the creators of Persona 3, 4, and 5. It takes place in a Medieval fantasy setting and features the signature vibrant Atlus art style, a complex narrative, a huge cast of characters, and a multi-layered combat system.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is a brand new adventure game from the minds behind the original Life is Strange. Not much is known about the game except that it's a time-travel mystery about four high school friends — Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat, who reunite 27 years after a horrible incident that made them part ways in the first place. Don't Nod has also confirmed that Bloom & Rage will be the first of (hopefully) many entries in the Lost Records universe.
Dragon's Dogma 2

The sequel to Capcom's iconic action RPG, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma 2, returns 12 years after the original. Built on Capcom's powerful RE Engine, Dragon's Dogma 2 features stunning visuals, a revamped pawn system, multiple new classes, and colossal boss encounters.
Star Wars: Outlaws

Star Wars: Outlaws is the first ever open world Star Wars game from the creators of The Division Games and 2023's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is being built on the studio's Snowdrop engine in which, instead of a Jedi, you play an outlaw named Kay Vess and go on a galaxy-spawning adventure alongside her companion, Nix.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2

Senua's harrowing adventure continues in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. Ninja Theory's psychological action-adventure was announced way back in 2019 alongside Xbox Series X. While it's certainly been a long time coming, the recent trailers suggest a very promising narrative-driven adventure that looks to be bigger and better in every aspect than its predecessor, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
Avowed

Obsidian Entertainment's Skyrim-esque action RPG finally arrives in 2024, almost four years after its initial announcement. Avowed looks to be Obsidian's take on a sprawling fantasy RPG in the veins of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls. It takes place in the world of Eora, the setting of the Pillars of Eternity games, and features fast-paced first-person combat and a dynamic world with a strong emphasis on companions.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

Suicide Squad is Rocksteady's first venture into the live-service genre. The base game features four playable characters - Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark, each with unique abilities and combat maneuvers, as they band together to take down the brainwashed Justice League across the sprawling open world city of Metropolis.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The long-awaited sequel to the first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, arrives in 2024 on two playable disks. It takes place right after the events of the first game, as Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith leave Midgard to travel to the Forgotten City to stop Shinra and Sephiroth.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Another year, another Yakuza Game. RGG studio returns with its most expansive Yakuza game - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It features a revised turn-based combat system of Like a Dragon with more jobs to encourage different playstyles. It brings back the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, who stands neck to neck with the charismatic Ichiban Kasuga as they explore Hawaii and look for Ichiban's long-lost mother.
