How to Get the Paraglider Early in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Spending a little bit of quality, main quest time with Purah will make traversing Hyrule a lot easier.
How to Get the Paraglider Early in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

With the long-anticipated arrival of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom finally upon us, players new or returning to the Breath of the Wild format will wonder when they can reclaim the precious Paraglider. The opening of the game will strip Link of all of his previous strength, landing you back at square one, with none of the abilities he once had, including the ability to glide. Thankfully, if you can briefly avoid distraction past the game’s tutorial segment, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Paraglider pretty early.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to quickly reclaiming one of the most crucial aerial abilities and traversal tools in Metacritic’s highest-rated game in five years.

Where is the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom?

The Paraglider is with Purah, over in Lookout Landing - however, you’ll need to follow up with the Crisis at Hyrule Castle questline to be able to gain access to it. That means you’ll need to safely land on the surface, speak to Purah and then have a quick venture to and from Hyrule Castle to speak to Survey Captain Hoz. You’ll need to prepare for a little bit of a jog.

How to Unlock the Paraglider Quickly

To get the Paraglider quickly, do the following:

  1. Complete the Great Sky Island tutorial segment and dive down to the Surface.

  2. Run through Hyrule Field to Lookout Landing, just north of where the Sky Island was.

  3. Head to the observatory tower near the north gate and speak to Purah.

  4. Follo Purah’s directions to locate Captain Hoz, who’s up at Hyrule Castle.

  5. Head north and follow the winding path up through the Hyrule Castle gates and reach the gatehouse.

  6. Use the Ascend ability to quickly reach the top and speak to Captain Hoz.

  7. After a cutscene, return to Purah and help her activate the Skyview Towers.

  8. She’ll grant you the Paraglider so you can safely land after using the Skyview Tower launchers.

And that’s all you need to do to grab the Paraglider swiftly! It clearly pays to spend a little time on the mainline story early on, as wandering off without this useful tool could leave you high and dry. Speaking of useful tools, make sure you know how to get your hands on the Gliding Shirt and where to get the Climbing Gear too!
