It has been nine months since developer FromSoftware announced the expansion of their breathtaking RPG, Elden Ring, called Shadow of the Erdtree, with very few details provided. Despite the announcement, Elden Ring fans had been treated to a myriad of related content, including a series of strategy and artwork books and, more recently, a streetwear clothing line called The Lands Between collection that continues the game's legacy.
FromSoftware's parent company, Kadokawa Corporation, recently held a Financial Earnings presentation in which an update regarding the game's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, was detailed. It will still be a while until players can revisit The Lands Between, but it's been noted that development is "proceeding smoothly."
Kadokawa Corporation held its Q2 Earning Results on 2nd November 2023, discussing the "consolidated earnings" for the second quarter. During the presentation, it was noted that production on the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion "is proceeding smoothly" despite a release date not being confirmed.
Overall, sales have been on the decline based on "on a Year to Date (YTD) basis" compared to last year "when Elden Ring contributed to sales," however, it saw an increase during the second quarter. This was due to the "strong start" of Armored Core VI, released in August 2023, as it recorded solid domestic sales, according to the report.
While it was highlighted that Armored Core VI had sold over 700,000 copies in Japan, it added that "repeat sales" of FromSoftware's entire back catalog, including Elden Ring, remained steadfast. The developer has forecasted strong global sales to increase for Armored Core VI, with the studio looking to take action on maximizing Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) for Elden Ring.
Towards the conclusion of the Q2 Earnings Results presentation, an FAQ segment was held where the development of the Shadow of the Erdtree was questioned. In response, the developer responded: "We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for ELDEN RING, but we have not announced a release date at this time."
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has yet to be announced by developer FromSoftware.
