Base building in ARK Survival Ascended will eventually become second nature to you as you progress through the game, but at its foundation (pun intended) lies the use of structures called foundations that all your other structures will sit on. While these foundations are quite versatile, there are some tricks to placing and moving them around.

One, in particular, that many players might struggle with is raising and lowering the height of foundations once other snap points are nearby, but don't fret, as that's where this guide has you covered. Below, we'll show you exactly how to raise and lower foundations in ARK Survival Ascended.

How To Raise And Lower Foundations In ARK Survival Ascended

In the past, players would need to use pillars to readjust the height positioning for their foundations, and the process was often quite tedious, as once a foundation was placed, putting another one next to it at a higher elevation was nearly impossible. Thankfully, the developers have added an easy method to do so in ARK Survival Ascended as a full-quality-of-life feature.

The ability to raise and lower foundations is a built-in feature, and all you need to do is move the mouse up and down before placing the foundation next to the first one you placed. (Picture: Shane / Studio Wildcard)

To achieve this, simply place your foundation at any height you want. When placing another one next to it, you can look up and down to switch between a lower placement or to align it with the previous foundation using the snap point. Of course, if the ground is too uneven, then this strategy won't work. If you place a foundation next to a small mound on the ground, the foundation next to it will be obstructed when trying to place it lower or higher.

Therefore, we recommend choosing a fairly flat area cleared of any foliage or debris (which can be easily done by using a console command for clearing foliage) when placing foundations and wanting to make use of this heightened/lowered foundation feature.

Once you have a stable plot of land to use, you can begin placing your foundations at different elevations for any purpose you want, whether it's setting up external turrets or other structures on your base; the world is your oyster.

So there you have it, a quick and comprehensive breakdown of how the lowering of foundations mechanic works in ARK Survival Ascended.
