Is Dead Space Remake Better Than The Original?

Following the release of the Dead Space Remake, lots of fans are wondering - is the new game better than the original?
Is Dead Space Remake Better Than The Original?

It seems like forever ago since the original Dead Space was released back in 2008, followed by the subsequent release of sequels Dead Space 2 in 2011 and Dead Space 3 in 2013 - but the games held up over time with their iconic stories, characters, and environments. In fact, the series still has a large enough fanbase for there to be much fanfare surrounding the Dead Space Remake, which releases on 27th January 2023.

With the Remake's release, many fans are left asking: is the Dead Space Remake better than the original? What are the similarities between the two, and where do they differ? Is the Remake worth buying if you're a fan of the original?

A new Dead Space game coming out in 2023, 15 years after the first game, definitely raises some eyebrows among fans, but don't fret - the Dead Space Remake stays true to the original while showcasing what modern technology can do. In this article, we'll delve deeper into the Dead Space Remake vs the original Dead Space and whether the remake is worth playing if you picked up the original long ago.

It is rare that a video game's remake has a more positive fan reception than the original game. While remakes are sometimes met with excitement and enthusiasm from fans - as is the case for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake, which promises an accurate remake of the original game - many of them end up being disregarded by fan communities due to their flaws. The Resident Evil 3 Remake, for example, went over poorly among fans of the franchise as it left out major parts of the story.

The Dead Space Remake, though, did not follow in the footsteps of the Resident Evil 3 Remake. Instead, the Dead Space Remake managed to earn an even higher rating on Metacritic than its 2008 predecessor. In fact, the Dead Space Remake achieved a score of 89 on Metacritic, while the original Dead Space (2008) received an 86.

So what did The Dead Space Remake do right?

Dead Space Remake Vs Original Plot And Characters

The remake isn't just accurate to the classic, bringing back all of the aspects fans love the most and staying true to the story, but it also puts a brand new spin on this long-beloved game. For example, the protagonist, Isaac Clarke, finally speaks - something he neglects to do even once in the original game.

Some people enjoy playing as a silent protagonist, so this might be a downfall to that niche group of players - but for many Dead Space fans, it's a pleasant surprise and increases the immersion to hear the protagonist speak. Developers take this opportunity to give him his own personality and develop his character, deepening the interactions Clarke has with other characters. If you were curious to know more about the character you were playing the first time you played Dead Space, all of those questions would be answered as you make your way through the remake.

Dead Space Remake Vs Original Graphics

The graphics in the Dead Space Remake are, of course, upgraded from the original, using the newest technology to recreate scenes and interactions from the first game. Looking at the two side-by-side, it's easy to see that technology has come a long way in the past fifteen years.

That's all you need to know about whether the Dead Space Remake is better than the original Dead Space (spoiler alert: we think it is!). The Dead Space Remake takes all of the best parts of the original and makes them even better while remaining unafraid to add some new features of its own. If you're still not sure which game you prefer, it's definitely a good idea to check out the games for yourself and get a taste of the differences!
