How to unlock horse in Elden Ring

Unlocking Elden Ring's horse Torrent will be one of the first things you will want to do during your first playthrough as it will make your life much easier. If you are wondering how to get the horse in Elden Ring, as well as how to use him, this "Elden Ring horse" guide will provide you with all the info you need to know.
How to unlock horse in Elden Ring

Elden Ring's horse Torrent will be one of your best friends and an essential tool during your adventures across the Lands Between. Unlike all previous FromSoftware games, Elden Ring features a vast open-world map waiting for you to explore it, unravel its secrets, and naturally -- die countless times.

And as you probably know, worlds created by FromSoftware, although beautiful in their own macabre way, are not exactly places where you want to go for a nice evening walk. The constant sense of urgency and threats lurking behind every corner are just some of the reasons why you will need to traverse fastly across the Lands Between.

And that's why you want to unlock Elden Ring's horse early in the game. Unfortunately, Torrent is not available from the get-go and you will need to follow a few steps before Torrent is available to you.

This guide will show you how to unlock the horse in Elden Ring as fast as possible.

As we have already established, Torrent will not be at your disposal when you start the game, rather you will unlock your horse in Elden Ring after you complete a few steps.

This is not communicated in the game in any way, it just comes as a natural progression as you play the game, but given that many players saw the powerful leaping horse in the trailer and were captivated by it, they were left wondering when and how they will be able to ride the steed.

In order to unlock the horse in Elden Ring, you will need to discover and visit several "Site of Grace" locations. Sites of Grace are virtually the same thing as Dark Souls' famous bonfires gameplay-wise, meaning they are safe spots where you can rest and recover.

Given that this is not explained in the game itself, we still don't know if there are some specific rules, but what we do know is that you need to visit and "recover the grace" at three Sites of Grace.

The four closest Sites of Grace are Stranded Graveyard, The First Step, Church of Elleh, Groveside Cave and Gatefront. Once you visit at least three of them, you will need to rest on the fourth one. The exact order, to our understanding, is not important.

When you take a rest on the fourth one (whichever that one is), a cut scene will trigger, and you will meet Melina, one of the main characters in the game which also serves as an exposition tool that will explain to you details of Elden Ring's lore. During your first encounter, she will bestow you with the Spectral Steed Whistle, a unique ring that you will use for summoning Torrent the horse.

And there you have it, you will finally have your powerful ethereal stallion. Asides from much faster travelling, you will quickly learn that the horse is quite useful in other ways. You can engage foes from the saddle, though you will need to get used to it, as it is rather different from battling on foot, and it comes with both pros and cons.

As you have already seen in the trailer, Torrent possesses a powerful leaping move that will allow you to jump across huge cliffs and reach otherwise unapproachable locations, many of them hiding treasures or interesting new mysteries.

With that said, that's all you need to know about unlocking and using Torrent the horse in Elden Ring.
