Elden Ring provides players of all experience and skill levels with an immersive RPG experience. The FromSoftware title features totally unique gameplay options within a massive open-world map for players to control their own destiny.
Of course, combat is a huge part of Elden Ring, as players will fight enemies of all sorts en route to levelling up and building out their character's setup. Game devs FromSoftware have included ways to customize your weapons and gear to increase particular stats.
Improving your weapons will be massively important to success in Elden Ring. So follow along here for a detailed guide on how to upgrade weapons in Elden Ring.
How to upgrade weapons - Elden Ring
Weapons in Elden Ring require certain levels of stats for players to wield them effectively. Players won't be able to perform the specific skill for their respective weapons if they do not meet the requirements of the gear.
Elden Ring features many categories of new weapons, in addition to some repeated weapons from previous Souls titles. The way in which players can upgrade their weapons includes the new Ashes of War which provide special boosts, skills, and more.
Upgrading weapons in Elden Ring
The first thing to know about upgrading weapons in Elden Ring is the materials it will require. Players will need to gather plenty of Runes and Smithing Stone Shards to utilize for weapons upgrade purposes.
Runes and Smithing Stone Shards can be farmed from Troll enemies in Stormhill, as well as mined from Limgrave Tunnels. Once sufficient materials have been gathered, go to the Church of Elleh and access the Smithing Table.
When upgrading a weapon, levels increase in +1 increments, boosting the damage of the weapon, and sometimes the overall Scaling as well. Ashes of War will also be used to provide alternate skills and stats boosts.
Upgrade weapons in Elden Ring - Ashes of War
Weapons in Elden Ring each come with a specific skill, which can be performed by pressing (L2/LT). Most of the weapons in Elden Ring can have their skill replaced by using Ashes of War, which have their own specific skill.
This provides more options and ways to customize the setup, tailoring your character to your gameplay. Players will need to be at a Site of Grace to access the Ashes of War menu and apply/remove to one of their weapons.
Do note, not all Ashes of War work on all weapons. Some Ashes of War are exclusive and require specific types of weapons to be used.
