The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)'s next expansion unlocks the doors to the West Weald zone in the upcoming Gold Road Chapter. Following the Scions of Ithelia, which gave players a preview of what's coming soon to Tamriel, including new story content, World Event, Trial, and a host of quality-of-life updates, there are a few new features to learn and master, like the Skill Styles feature.

Skill Styles allows players to customize their in-game skills or abilities that can be applied once they've been unlocked or earned. So, exactly how players can acquire and use Skill Styles is the subject of this guide for the ESO Gold Road Chapter.

What Is Skill Styles In ESO Gold Road?

The Gold Road Chapter is the forthcoming DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), that will launch for PC on 3rd June 2024 and for consoles on 18th June 2024. This DLC will feature plenty of new content, including new region, West Weald, Zone Quests, the Mirrormorr Incursions World Event, the Lucent Citadel Trial, and plenty of rewards.

This DLC also adds a new in-game feature, Scribing, and a new type of collectibles called Skill Styling, which will add new customizations. According to the developer post of Scribing, Skill Styling or Styles "are color variations of popular abilities" from various skill lines acquired during their adventures, including all Guild, weapon, and world skill lines.

Players who want to access and acquire Skill Styles must have purchased the Gold Road Chapter, which is available from their preferred digital storefront. Unfortunately, players can't buy the DLC in-game from the Crown Store, nor is it included with ESO Plus, so they must purchase it from the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, Epic Games Store, or Steam.

How To Get And Use Skill Styles In ESO Gold Road?

As we've mentioned, Skill Styling or Styles "are color variations" of various skill lines or abilities, split into multiple types ranging from Class to weapon, armor, Guild, and more. Regardless of the type of skill line, there are three commonly known main types, namely Active, Passive, and Ultimate Abilities, which players can access their skill lines from the Main Menu.

Skill Styles or Styling can be acquired rather differently from skill lines, which are unlocked through progressing in-game and the experience gained for the associated skill line. Skill Styles, which let players enhance their skills, are acquired in multiple ways.

According to the Gold Road Chapter PTS patch notes, Skill Styles can be obtained in the West Weald zone by completing the Scribing questline. It's unclear when the Scribing questline starts; however, they will receive it at the start of the Gold Road Chapter, which they can complete to earn Skill Styles.

Other ways players can get Skill Styles are by completing Daily quests, locating Skyshards within the West Weald zone, and completing Achievements. Lastly, players can participate in the new World Event, the Mirrormoor Incursions, for which they can receive Skill Styles as rewards upon completion.

As for how they can use Skill Styles in ESO, they can navigate to the Skill category from the Main Menu, scroll through their Skills, and look for a paintbrush icon beside them. Clicking on this icon allows them to view all the Skill Styles unlocked for that skill line before equipping them.

There are 22 Skill Styles that will be included with the Gold Road Chapter at launch and they're unlocked through the multiple ways we've listed. It's unclear if more will be added to ESO post-launch, but we'll update this guide once more information becomes readily available.
