Far Cry 6: Does it support crossplay?

Amidst the chaos and intense conflict on the island of Yara, players have been left wondering as to whether Ubisoft will finally include support for cross-platform or crossplay for Far Cry 6?

Players have also enjoyed creating chaos or restoring balance when engaging in multiplayer action. Far Cry has previously supported cooperative (co-op) multiplayer in most of its entries, as revelling in the maniacal world in Yara is always enjoyed best with a buddy or more.

Herewith lies the important question: does Far Cry 6 come with support for crossplay? Can players team up with their friends online, irrespective of the platform they’re playing on? Well, Ubisoft does have some news, as we outlined in this guide on crossplay support.

Will crossplay be supported in Far Cry 6?

Let’s get straight to the news, both the good and the bad news, that is. Firstly, Far Cry 6 does not support crossplay for Far Cry 6. This may be quite a letdown for players who are hoping to light up the skies of Yara with friends across multiple gaming platforms.

Crossplay support has been in the media as it allows players on different platforms to play with each other with online gaming functionality. In simpler terms, players on PC can play online with friends on Xbox and vice versa.

As such, crossplay support has become increasingly popular over the last few years as supported games have utilised crossplay support to allow all players from different platforms to play together and earn victories. But there is a glimmer of hope.

Far Cry 6 does indeed support cross-generation play, meaning players from different platform generations can play alongside each other in co-op multiplayer. In this instance, players on PlayStation 4 can play online with players on PlayStation 5.

Additionally, Far Cry 6 also supports cross-progression across all platforms. Ubisoft has detailed which Far Cry 6 content supports these features and whether they can be shared across all platforms once purchased through an in-game store (i.e., Ubisoft Store) or across the same family of consoles once purchased through the platform’s store (i.e., Xbox Store, Steam, PlayStation Store).

How to unlock cooperative multiplayer in Far Cry 6?

As mentioned earlier, Far Cry 6 does not support crossplay, but it does support cross-generation play. The next question many would likely ask: how does one unlock co-op for Far Cry 6?

Co-op isn’t available to the game during the prologue; however, players do get to unlock this mode once players have completed one of the prologue missions tied to this mode. While in Isla Santuario, players will receive the “Du or Die” mission, which upon completion, players will receive a notification, alerting players that they have unlocked co-op.

Co-op can then be accessed through one of two methods: from the game’s Main Menu or by selecting the Start Screen in the top right-hand corner. Players are to take note that when in co-op, your inventory, as well as Guerilla Experience, will carry over during these sessions.
