Romelu Lukaku claims FIFA "mess" with ratings to get free publicity

FIFA 21’s player ratings have finally been revealed, and Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku is less than impressed with what he received. He’s made a bold claim about EA’s intentions.

Romelu Lukaku has had a stellar season in his first year at Inter Milan. The Belgian striker has scored 23 goals in 36 appearances. But it seems like EA hasn’t been paying attention, and it’s left a bitter taste in his mouth.

EA has released the official player ratings for their upcoming FIFA 21 title, and despite having a much better season than his previous two at Manchester United, Romelu Lukaku’s player rating has more or less remained the same at 85.

He’s still one of the highest-rated players in Serie A, but the fact his rating hasn’t gone up is certainly questionable. Lukaku expressed his dissatisfaction on Twitter and accused EA of something far more sinister.

“Let’s be honest fifa just mess with the ratings so we players start complaining about the game and give them more publicity,” he said. “I ain’t with this sh*t. I know what I do.” It’s an interesting point and one that has been both supported and refuted by people who responded to his Tweet.

Lukaku’s accusation is somewhat conspiratorial, but his dissatisfaction is warranted. The season that passed was the second-best one he’s had in his career. The only time he’s scored more was in 2016-2017 when he played for Everton, and the fact that we are now writing it proves his point.

Of course, not everyone will agree. Some stand by him and believe he’s been stitched up, while others are certain his player-rating is accurate and are trolling him for being salty. Either way, everyone will agree that FIFA player ratings are kind of a big deal to fans and players, and it’s frustrating when they get them wrong.
