During last month's Nintendo Direct presentation for the upcoming hardware launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo held a Partner Spotlight featurette, which showcased forthcoming third-party games coming to the Switch 2. Some upcoming games that will be ported to the console include Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Hades 2, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, available to play alongside exclusive Nintendo releases.
Another third-party game confirmed to be heading to Switch 2 consoles is Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is slowly launching for other platforms outside of the PlayStation 5. Recently, Nintendo released their latest installment in the Creator's Voice, in which game director Naoki Hamaguchi commented on the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the Switch 2 console.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake game director Naoki Hamaguchi appeared on the recent Nintendo Creator's Voice video in which he and the development team discussed "how they reimagined one of the most iconic games of all time for Nintendo Switch 2." As of writing, Final Fantasy 7 Remake does not have a Switch 2 release date confirmed, despite the console's launch just around the corner on 5th June 2025.
During the Nintendo Creator's Voice featurette, Hamaguchi talked about the console's specifications and how it can run Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the hardware, revealing the console's performance power is "enough" to support the game. He continued this narrative on having a Final Fantasy game on a modern Nintendo system, "The original game gave me the opportunity to pursue a career in the games industry, makes me feel like it was fate."
Later, he made interesting comments about the possibility of the remaining entries heading to the console, including Rebirth and the final unnamed game. "And with the release of the Final Fantasy 7 remake series on Switch 2, it would make me very happy if two generations connect and share a bond over the characters."
