God of War Ragnarok: Is Atreus Playable?

God of War Ragnarok continues Kratos' and Atreus' journey through the nine realms, this time around, to prevent Ragnarok. It's set three years after the events of 2018's God of War and features a much older Atreus, who, after learning his true nature at the end of the first game, is looking for some much-needed answers.

Pre-release trailers for God of War Ragnarok do put the spotlight on Atreus' character, even more so than its 2018's predecessor. As such, it's no surprise that many fans have been wondering whether the god of mischief is playable in this next adventure or not. Atreus's Role in God of War Ragnarok Explained

Atreus is indeed playable in God of War Ragnarok. In fact, you get to play as Loki for a huge chunk of the game as he embarks on the journey to discover his abilities, find answers about the Giants and fulfill his prophecy.

Without spoiling too much, Atreus' gameplay sections are more linear compared to Kratos'. It is comparable to that of Ciri in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. As the story progresses, you unlock new bow abilities, skills, and weapons for Atreus to use in combat. Atreus is more agile when compared to Kratos (Think Ellie from The Last of Us 1 or 2), so his linear sections are a welcome addition to the game.
