Almost a year has passed since the official launch of Legends of Runeterra, Riot Games' collectable card game which has gone through many phases and seasons, in which many players have been able to experiment with strategies and skill, as part of the Runeterra and League of Legends universe.

Like other recent Riot releases such as Teamfight Tactics and Valorant, this title has also started to make a foray into the esports ecosystem with its Seasonal Tournaments, where thousands of players have competed for the title of being the best in each region.

Following the same path as its other sister games, Legends of Runeterra will take the step to the next level with its recently announced World Championship, which will take place throughout the year, and about which we will give you all the details below.

The path to the LoR World Championship will be divided into three different tracks, each representing a region within its ecosystem: Americas, Europe and Asia.

Each of these will have a quota of up to 64 players, who will qualify for the regional qualifiers through different means:

Ranked Season performance

Depending on the performance that players have had in each ranked season, players will be awarded points based on their final rank, although only those who reached Master or beyond will receive points.

The player’s scores will be determined based on their best placement in two out of the five seasons leading up to the World Championship.

At the end, the top 22 players on each shard by the cutoff will earn a seat for the World Championship qualifiers.

Seasonal Tournaments

So far, two Seasonal Tournaments have been carried out within the competitive calendar, these being Monuments of Power and Cosmic Creation.

The top 4 players from each of all five Seasonal Tournaments will be guaranteed a seat in the World Championship qualifiers. Any duplicates will pass their seat to a qualifier based on Seasonal Tournament Points.

Through this method, a total of 20 players will advance to the World Championship qualifiers.

Seasonal Tournament points

All players who participate in the Seasonal Tournaments will receive points based on their performances in each of these competitions.

For instance, one point will be awarded per game won in both the Open Rounds and Playoffs phase of the Seasonal Tournament, while points from all Seasonal Tournaments from Empires of the Ascended onward will be combined into a single total.

A total of 22 players will advance to the qualifiers after the end of the competitive season.

After the regional qualifiers conclude, a total of 16 players will qualify for the LoR World Championship, with the seeds being distributed as follows:

  • Americas: 6 seeds
  • Europe: 5 seeds
  • Asia: 5 seeds

Before the fight for the championship begins, all players will be divided into four groups of four players each, where they will battle against each other in a round-robin format.

The best two players from each group will advance onto the knockout stage, where they will be distributed against other opponents from a different group of their own.

The knockout stage will have a single-elimination stage, where the last survivor will be crowned as the first-ever LoR World Champion.
