How to Use Dunk Meter in NBA 2K22

One of the calling cards of NBA 2K over the last few years has been the implementation of a major gameplay change from title to title. NBA 2K21 saw the shot meter debut to very mixed reviews, and now 2K22 has its own new shooting mechanic.

The Dunk Meter is a new addition to the slashing gameplay, aiming to create more dynamic dunking animations. It seems to have come in response to many gamers' complaints of overpowered dunking abilities in 2K21.

Controlling the Dunk Meter requires a little more player skill, so you'll want to know the tricks of the trade entirely. Here's how to use the Dunk Meter in NBA 2K22.

Similar to the shot meter on jump shots, the ideal release for the Dunk Meter is on the white line within the green zone. To the left or right of the white tick (early or late release) is still ok if it's inside the green zone, but the closer the better.

To activate the dunk meter, you'll need to be driving towards the hoop with turbo activated (R2/RT) and pull down on the right analog stick. You'll see the dunk meter begin to start filling up and you can look to time your jam. Be sure to hold down on the turbo meter or your player will attempt a floater instead.

Make sure to note that if you start the dunk on the left side of the court, the dunk meter will appear on the left side of your player. If you start the dunk on the right side of the court, the dunk meter will appear on the right side of your player.

It can take a bit of time to get used to, it's a very unnatural feel as opposed to previous years of 2K. But gamers seem to be split on its effectiveness so far. Some are thankful of the overpowered lock-on dunks seem to be less frequent, but others think 2K Games may have gone too far.

Either way, we'll be sure to have you up to the date with all the latest from NBA 2K22 including MyPlayer guides, MyTeam player packs, and much more.
