Is The Summer Games Event Coming To Overwatch 2?

Update - The Overwatch 2 Roadmap has confirmed that Summer Games is coming in Season 5.

At the time of this writing, we have full confirmation that the Summer Games will be returning to Overwatch 2. Not only do we have confirmation that the Summer Games event is coming back, we even know that it is coming back in Season 5. The Summer Games event was one of the most popular events that Overwatch had.

According to the new official roadmap provided by Blizzard, the Summer Games Event will begin on July 11th. It brings a new event called Winston's Beach Volleyball and it will also have the popular Lucio Ball as well.

When Does Overwatch 2 Summer Games Start?

Thanks to the most recent roadmap created by Blizzard to give us an idea of what 2023 will look like, we know exactly when the Summer Games event will be returning to Overwatch 2. Thankfully, we do not have to wait too long for the Summer Games event. The Summer Games Event has returned as of Season 5 of Overwatch 2 on July 11th.

According to the most recent roadmap for Overwatch 2, the two Summer Games game modes will become playable on July 11th. Now that it is happening, players have until July 24th to play in the Summer Games event.

What Happens During The Overwatch 2 Summer Games Event?

The Summer Games event is one of the most popular events in Overwatch. The main reason for that is in the original Summer Games event introduced the Lucio Ball game mode. Lucio Ball is a game mode where everyone plays as Lucio and it is a game of soccer. Everyone is trying to push their ball into the goal to score points. It became so popular that there was even ranked Lucio Ball at some point. A new game mode called Winston's Beach Volleyball will also be available to play. Unlike Lucio Ball, it does not seem like players have to play as Winston for this game mode. We will have to wait and see if Winston's Beach Volleyball will return as Lucio Ball does. On top of that, there are usually a lot of summer-themed skins that become available during the Summer Games event as well. OW2 Summer Games 2023 Lucioball Mode

One of the most highly anticipated features of Overwatch's Summer Games has always been the exclusive game mode, Lucioball. This mode essentially plays like Rocket League, but with Lucio as the main character instead of rocket-propelled cars. While the game mode has remained mostly unchanged since Overwatch's inception, a new version called Lucioball Remix was introduced in 2020. It's unclear what version we're getting in Overwatch 2, but we suspect it will be the normal Lucioball mode.

OW2 Summer Games 2023 Winston’s Beach Volleyball Mode

Players can look forward to the revival of Lucioball and a new game mode called Winston's Beach Volleyball, exclusive to The Summer Games event.

In a livestream the developers shared that players should expect to “run, jump, and spike a giant volleyball towards your opponents, scoring when the ball hits the sand.” So yeh, just like normal volleyball then.

OW2 Summer Games 2023 New Skins

Season 5's new trailer and teasers have given players a glimpse of the latest skins available during the event. The developers have unveiled a new "tropical-themed" skin for Doomfist, which players can acquire through the Summer Games event. There is also a Lifeguard Mercy skin that players can purchase.
