Dragon Scale in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, how to find

The Dragon Scale is a held item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that makes a certain Pokémon evolve into its final form. There are many items like it in Sinnoh, each required to evolve Pokémon. The Dragon Scale in particular evolves Seadra into Kingdra, a much stronger Pokémon thanks to it getting a secondary typing. 

Seadra evolves from Horsea and is a straight Water-type. However, when players choose to evolve it into Kingdra, it gains the Dragon-typing, eliminating many weaknesses. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, only Dragon and Fairy-type moves are super effective against it. 

If you’re looking to add a dynamic Water-type Pokémon to your team, then Kingdra might be the answer. You’ll need to Dragon Scale to do so, though. 

Finding the Dragon Scale in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Unlike other evolutionary items, you won’t be able to simply go to a location and find a Dragon Scale on the ground inside of a Poké Ball. Instead, you need to acquire it via catching certain Pokémon. 

The Pokémon that can hold a Dragon Scale is Seadra and Dratini, the latter of which can’t be caught until you’ve beaten the game and acquired the National Dex. Once you’ve done both of those things, then you can begin fishing for Dratini in the Grand Underground. 

For Seadra, you can fish for one on Route 226 with a Good Rod. Alternatively, you can fish for Seadra in the Grand Underground but only if you have the National Dex. Fishing on Route 226 doesn’t require the National Dex. 

Once you start catching either Pokémon, you can check to see if they’re holding a Dragon Scale. If they aren’t, then simply send it off to your PC box and keep fishing until you find one with the item. After you do, you can give it to one of your Seadra to evolve it into Kingdra.
