How to catch Larvitar and Tyranitar evolution in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Tyranitar is one of the most formidable Pokémon in the franchise and it’s back in the Sinnoh remakes.

Out of all of the Pokémon in existence, Tyranitar might be among the most intimidating from a sheer design standpoint. The first Pokémon version of a tyrannosaurus rex is towering in stature and a solid creature to use in battle.

With the Sinnoh remakes of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players got the chance to use Tyranitar once again. However, that requires players to catch its pre-evolved form, Larvitar, first.

Larvitar is a tiny Pokémon that players will have to struggle training until it evolves into Pupitar. From there, it’s a simple matter of evolving it into Tyranitar.

If players have battled Roark for the second time, they know how strong Tyranitar can be in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Below, they can find out how they can add one to their team.

To start, you’ll need to have beaten the main story of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This involves defeating Team Galactic and the Elite Four. Once this is done, you can go about acquiring the National Dex. This is done through seeing all 150 Pokémon in the regional Sinnoh Dex and then speaking to Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town.

With the National Dex in hand, you can head to the Grand Underground to encounter either Larvitar or Pupitar. You’ll want to head into Big Bluff Cavern or any Rocky Cave to find either of the pre-evolved forms of Tyranitar.

If you find Larvitar, then you’ll need to evolve it into Pupitar by advancing it one level. You’ll then need to evolve Pupitar one extra level to evolve it into Tyranitar. However, if you caught a Pupitar straight away, then you’ll just need to level it up once to acquire Tyranitar.

That’s the entire process of adding Tyranitar to your party in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
