How to evolve Basculin in Pokémon Legends Arceus

Here's a guide on how to evolve your Basculin for maximum results in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
How to evolve Basculin in Pokémon Legends Arceus

Basculin is one of the headliner Pokémon in the region of Hisui. While its base form is still useful on the battlefield, its evolution is the thing that players covet when it comes to Basculin. Game Freak decided to give Basculin a Hisuian evolution, Basculegion, which serves multiple purposes in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. For starters, it’s a decent Water-type Pokémon that players can use in battle. Secondly, Basculegion can be used to surf across water, allowing players to get from point A to point B much quicker.

However, before players can take advantage of Basculegion’s useful traits, they will need to learn how to evolve Basculin. For a full rundown on how to do so and where you can find Basculin in Hisui, follow along for a full guide below.

If you don’t yet have Basculin in your party, you will need to catch it in one of three regions. Those regions are Cobalt Coastlands, Coronet Highlands, and Alabaster Icelands. Any one of these three regions holds the Pokémon, which can be found in the water around its spawn locations.

In Cobalt Coastlands, you can find Basculin in Tranquility Cove and Islespy Shore. In Coronet Highlands, you will find it in Fabled Spring. Lastly, in Alabaster Icelands, you can catch Basculin in Lake Acuity and Heart’s Crag.

It’s recommended to try and catch a Basculin in Alabaster Icelands, where its level will be the highest. This is useful for evolving Basculin into Basculegion, as you’ll need it to know certain moves at higher levels.

In order to evolve Basculin, you must have it take 294 recoil damage from its own attacks. This is quite the odd way to evolve a Pokémon but, nonetheless, it’s the task at hand.

You can earn this recoil damage in several different battles but we recommend healing after each encounter to ensure your Basculin can continue taking hits from itself. Luckily, you don’t have to hit 294 recoil damage on the nose, you can go over that number and still evolve Basculin.

The moves you can use to achieve this number are Wave Crash and Double Edge. The former is learned at level 34 while the latter is learned at level 43. With either move learned, go into battle against Pokémon that are weak to Water-types, such as Fire, Ground, or Rock, and use the moves Wave Crash or Double Edge.

After you’ve dealt 294 or more recoil damage to Basculin, you can evolve it into Basculegion. That's all you need to know for evolving your Basculin, for more guides like this make sure to check out our dedicated Pokémon page.
