Pokémon GO Mega Alakazam – Best Moveset, Counters, And Weaknesses

Every so often, Niantic unveils new Pokémon for players to catch and feature in their teams. Whether through Raids or GO Battle Leagues, these featured Pokémon debuting each season are generally must-haves for any Pokémon trainer.

The latest event to hit Pokémon GO servers is the Psychic Spectacular featuring Psychic-type Pokémon across all Raids, including Legendary and Mega Raids.

One of the Pokémon featured in the Psychic Spectacular event is Mega Alakazam, now called one of the strongest Pure Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, excluding Legendaries.

Here’s everything you need to know about Mega Alakazam and how to catch this spoon-bending Pokémon in your Mega Raids from 6th September to 16th September 2022.

Pokémon GO Mega Alakazam - Best Moveset

First off, Mega Alakazam is one of the most widely accessible Psychic-type Pokémon across Pokémon GO. Of course, when compared to Mewtwo or Hoopa, Mega Alakazam doesn’t come as close in hierarchy.

Still, at 367 Attack, 193 Defense, 146 Stamina, and as a non-Legendary Pokémon, it’s one, if not the best, Psychic-type Pokémon with the highest damage output.

Normally. Alakazam wouldn’t be an absolute necessity for Pokémon GO players in its former state. But considering if the Pokémon’s caught during the event, it’ll be able to learn a Charge Move called Psychic; it’s become one of the strongest Psychic-type Pokémon in the game.

Psychic is a pretty strong move that also has a chance to lower an opposing Pokémon’s defense in Trainer Battles. In Raids, it still does immense damage at 90 Power and is the Pokémon’s preferred Charge Moveset.

You can also use Confusion, Psycho Cut, or Counter (Elite) for the Pokémon’s Fast Moveset. Preferably, Psychic and Psycho Cut or Confusion do wonders.

Mega Alakazam is only evolvable using 200 Mega Energy (the next evolve will cost 40 Mega Energy), acquired throughout the event during the Pokémon’s Mega Raids.

You will need to evolve Abra (base evolution) to Kadabra (second evolution needing 25 Candy) and into Alakazam (third evolution requiring 100 Candy) before you can Mega Evolve the Pokémon into Mega Alakazam.

Pokémon GO Mega Alakazam - Weaknesses and Counters

As a Pure Psychic-type Pokémon, Mega Alakazam is weak against Dark, Ghost, and Bug-type moves.

Some really good Pokémon to use during Mega Alakazam Raids are Mega Gengar, Mega Absol, Hoopa, Darkrai, and Hydreigon for their Dark-type attacks.

On the other hand, it’s suggested not to use Fighting or Psychic-type moves against Mega Alakazam as the Pokémon is resistant to them. 

And that’s all there is to it. Mega Alakazam is an excellent Pokémon to get in Pokémon GO, and it also has a Shiny variation to collect.

But don’t wait too long as the event-exclusive move, Psychic, will likely only be available during the Psychic Spectacular event. Catch all the Alakazam you can from 6th September to 16 September 2022 in Pokémon GO.
