TM23, otherwise known as Iron Tail, is among the strongest Steel-type moves that any Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can learn. While many Pokémon without tails can learn the move, that doesn’t matter much when Pokémon are using it in battle. The TM has 100 base power and 75 accuracy, making it a high risk, high reward move for Pokémon to learn.
Due to the lack of stronger Steel-type moves in Sinnoh, players are after the TM for Iron Tail more so than other moves. For any player looking to acquire Iron Tail, this Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl guide will help.
Finding TM23 Iron Tail in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
To start, you’ll need to have made it to Canalave City, which happens after learning the HM for Surf from the Hearthome City Gym. You can go to Canalave from Jubilife City on the western side. Once in the city, you can cross a bridge west of the Pokémon Center and battle your rival.
After they’re defeated, you can keep going south, past the Gym and talk to the sailor standing on the dock next to the boat. The sailor will take you to Iron Island, where you meet Riley and even acquire the egg for Riolu, which evolves into Lucario.
Before you leave the egg, though, you can pick up the TM for Iron Tail. Upon first entering the Iron Island cave, you want to take the right staircase. Down these stairs, you’ll see some trainers, which you need to advance past to get to the elevator in the back of the room. After going down the elevator, take the right staircase again.
Inside this room, you’ll find the Poké Ball containing Iron Tail next to a construction worker wearing a yellow hardhat. You can now teach Iron Tail to any Pokémon that can learn it, like Lucario.
