How To Make A Door In Sons of the Forest

When building your base in Sons of the Forest, there are a few basic things you need to implement to ensure the safety of your party when you're up against powerful mutants and nasty cannibals. One of these basics is the simple door, and while it may sound like an obvious structure to have, knowing how to create one and place it strategically can be the difference between surviving an enemy swarm and dying at their hands.

So in this guide, we're going to show you how to build a door in Sons of the Forest as well as how to place it effectively in your base to make sure it serves its role well as a line of defense against the monsters that will be coming at you. So without further delay, let's jump right in.

How To Make A Door In Sons of the Forest

The construction of a door in Sons of the Forest is probably one of the easiest things to do while you're building your home base. The first step is to make sure you have a proper floor or foundation set, as doors cant be built on uneven ground, so once this is done, you can start building your door.

Find a spot where you want to place your door and stack exactly six logs on top of each other horizontally, and be sure to add six as anything else won't allow you to build the door. The top/sixth log from the bottom will be part of your roof, as the door is only five wood logs high, so keep this in mind when building your roof.

Once the six logs are placed, whip out your axe and point to the fifth log from the top until you see a red cutout appear. Chop this section out and do so for all the wood logs until you reach the last one at the bottom, after which you'll have an empty door frame to which you can add the door.

For this, you'll need some wood planks, then by heading to the door frame, and once you see a vertical arrow appear, place the wood planks (you'll need three in total). And with that, your door will now be complete, and you'll have easy access to your base.

But because Sons of the Forest never takes it easy on players, you'll need to give your door a bit more thought, and that's where the next step comes in. Placing your door strategically is a must in this game, so below we'll give you some tips on how to do it.

Door-Building Tips In Sons of the Forest

The first and most important thing to remember is that mutants and cannibals can break through your door, so it's not a failsafe that can protect you if you hide inside. However, the door can act as a perfect funnel as the enemies AI will go for the door first, meaning you can decide how you want to deal with them.

We recommend that you make your living quarters inside the base as far away from the door as possible, even having your door lead to a small corridor that takes you to the base would be ideal. From there, you can lay traps around your door to ambush unwanted visitors, or even use the door simply funnel enemies like fish in a barrel. The choice is yours on how you want to use the door to your advantage, but for such a simple structure, it can save your skin in tough situations, so be smart about where you place it.
