French independent studio, BlueTwelve, and publisher Annapurna Interactive will finally release their much-anticipated adventure video game, Stray. Set in a sprawling cyberpunk city of Hong Kong, the game is receiving critical attention for its feline protagonist and futuristic gameplay design.

Experiencing this bright yet dangerous world through a stray cat's eyes has excited many players since its gameplay demo during the PlayStation State of Play in June 2022. We'll review everything you need about Stray, including its release date, platforms, gameplay features, and more.

Stray – Release date, platforms, and trailer

The third-person cat adventure game, Stray, is an independent game from a small development team, BlueTwelve Studios, based in France. Published by Annapurna Interactive, the game is scheduled for release on 19th July 2022 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and 5 consoles.

First revealed during the PlayStation Future of Gaming showcase in June 2020, the game was initially set for a January 2021 release. The official gameplay trailer and a release date trailer followed, which the latter confirmed its July 2022 release.

Stray – Gameplay features

Players will be controlling a lonesome stray cat who got separated from its family as they learn to navigate the dystopian-like city of Hong Kong to escape it. You learn secrets that unravel the years-long mystery as you traverse the city's back alleys, neon-lit streets, and seedy underground locales.

The game incorporates open-world and exploration elements, which see you roaming various areas as you avoid the presence of robots that patrol the streets. The game leans into the sci-fi elements; the environments are beautifully designed and brightly lit, thanks to the array of buildings and fixtures.

The cat's agile abilities let you scale large garbage bins and rooftops in specific scenarios, allowing you to interact easily and gain new perspectives. Additionally, you'll receive much-needed guidance and help from a flying droid, B-12, as the pairing work together to collect items and avoid a dangerous threat known as the Zurks.
