Valheim: How To Add Icons And Mark Your Map

Marking your map is a huge help in Valheim when you’re exploring the far-reaching corners of the Norse realm. Here is how to add the icon and mark the map in Valheim.
Valheim: How To Add Icons And Mark Your Map

Valheim has a huge and expansive map that makes exploring a real treat and marvel experience.

However, as it’s so big and procedurally-generated, players can get lost extremely easily. Not only this, it’s hard to keep up with every new biome or resource vein you find. If you’re looking for Copper and find it but can’t lug all of it back to your base, it’s sometimes difficult to remember where it is when you want to return and mine more.

Luckily, there’s an easy way to ensure you never have to search for items on the map again. Valheim has a simple way of marking your map with various icons but some players don’t even know the feature exists.

To mark your map in Valheim, all you need to do is press “M,” or whatever your map keybind is, and look toward the bottom right of the screen. You will see five different icons that you’re able to mark anywhere on your map.

The icons are meant to offer you different ways to mark the map and allow you to differentiate between the markers. For example, your bases can be marked with the fire icon and a Copper Ore vein can be marked with the dot icon.

Once you find the icon you want to use, select it from the bottom right of the screen and then double left-click the spot on your map you want to mark. It’s recommended to zoom in as far as possible so you can narrow down the area.

After you’ve double-clicked, the marker will appear and you can then type in whatever label you want. Keeping it short and simple is a wise idea so you don’t clutter your map too much with words.
