After weeks of possible leaks, news reports, and multiple teases that sent the entire Elder Scrolls community searching for a loophole, Bethesda finally opened the portals, confirming The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. This was revealed in a stunning new trailer with a bigger surprise awaiting players: the remaster's official shadow release on 22nd April 2025 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
As returning players make their way back to Cyrodiil, while new players experience one of the defining RPG releases of the past two decades, the game boasts a complete remaster "from the ground up" of the base game, its expansions, and multiple DLCs to enjoy. However, for those playing on PC or via Game Pass on PC, there is a major feature that isn't supported, which has caused concern within the community.
Video game modding has grown exponentially over the past few years, with some of the biggest games having robust modding communities, including Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto 5, Half-Life 2, and Stardew Valley. Following the official announcement and release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, many were eager to learn whether Oblivion Remastered would have official modding support, with multiple mods already being developed and available to download from platforms like Nexus Mods.
Unfortunately, the developer dropped quite a bombshell via the official FAQ support page, saying that the game didn't include this feature at launch. "Mods are not supported for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered," which should players have any gameplay or technical issues "while playing with mods, it's recommended you first try uninstalling your mods, then verify your games files on Steam or the Xbox App."
As mentioned before, there are several mods available to download and install on PC, and this number will continue to grow over the next few days and weeks. Despite Oblivion Remastered not having official modding support upon its release, we could see this added to the game post-launch or let the modding community make this available for all to enjoy their newfound adventures in Cyrodiil.
