How to catch Giratina in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Giratina is back and better than ever in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
How to catch Giratina in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

One of the most iconic Legendary Pokémon of all time is back in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Giratina originated in Sinnoh but only came after the original Diamond and Pearl games. The Legendary came from the ultimate Sinnoh game, Pokémon Platinum, and was immediately a fan-favourite thanks to its unique typing of Ghost and Dragon.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have introduced a slew of Legendaries and Giratina is no exception. Luckily for players, the Pokémon is found much easier than some of the others, like Heatran or Rayquaza

However, it will take some effort to catch Giratina, so keep reading below for the full details.

You’ll first need to beat the main story of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl and defeat the Elite Four to access the post-game. In the post-game, you can go about acquiring the National Dex from Professor Rowan/Oak, which requires you to see all 151 Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex.

Once you have the upgrade dex, you can begin the trek to catch Giratina. This begins with finding Turnback Cave, which is the lair of the Legendary Pokémon. Turnback Cave is found south of Veilstone City on Route 214. You’ll need to find Spring Path and keep going down it until you reach a cave entrance. This is Turnback Cave and you’ll need to enter it.

The trick with Turnback Cave is that there’s no concrete way to navigate it. There are a total of 30 rooms inside of it but each room is random. You’re looking to find three pillars amongst the rooms, which can take some time if you’re not keeping track of where you’re going. If you reach all 30 rooms in the cave and don’t come across all three pillars, you need to exit the cave and start over again.

However, once you find the third pillar, the next room you enter will contain Giratina. It’s recommended to save prior to exiting the room with the third pillar so you can have as many chances as possible to catch the Legendary.

If you’ve saved your Master Ball, Giratina is a great choice to use it on. If you didn’t, then using Dusk Balls is perhaps the best way to go about catching Giratina in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. You can buy Dusk Balls in Celestic Town or Pastoria City.
