Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Daimyo Hermitaur - How to Beat And Weaknesses

Learn how to effectively take down the Daimyo Hermitaur in the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Daimyo Hermitaur - How to Beat And Weaknesses

As the first monster that you will need to face head-on in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, the Daimyo Hermitaur can be a serious threat despite its appearance. This Monster Hunter Classic has plenty of damage potential and it can be hard to crack its defensive shell.

Once you speak the Elder and the Trader at the Village, you will be tasked with hunting down the Daimyo Hermitaur in the Shrine Ruins location of the Monster Hunter Rise base game. Every Hunter Rank 7 player and above must defeat this hermit crab before moving on to the true expansion, and learning the weaknesses can save you plenty of grief.

Even though the Daimyo Hermitaur will seem more difficult because it's a starting beast in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, that doesn't mean it won't still pose a threat later on in the game. The creature doesn't move very fast, but it has some hard-hitting attacks and plenty of defense to ward off attackers that attempt any flanks.

Starting with the moves that the crab has, most of the time it will utilize beams or ground-based attacks. Water beams are fairly common and they will go one of two ways. They are either used as a normal beam like any other monster, or the Hermitaur will go side to side like a true crab, making evasion more awkward. Watch out for these to avoid blight and damage.

When the Daimyo Hermitaur goes underground, it will choose one target and send one claw to the surface three times in a row. This can be dodged by timing a couple of seconds in between each and waiting for the full combo to end. Aside from these basics, there is no true enraged state to watch out for or any crazy nukes.

There is a massive shell on the back of the monster, and the legs are also not very vulnerable, so damage is tough. The face of the Daimyo Hermitaur is by far the best for damage, but it is also where the crab deals most damage as well. Legs are the second-best option, but they won't be nearly as effective.

Considering the Hermitaur is almost entirely water-based, in theme and in damage, there is one element that can shred through the crab. Thunder is your best friend in this fight, and with recent changes, elements are looking better than ever in nearly any weapon build.

As for the type of weapons that will really crack the Hermitaur, blunt options are your best friend. They will outperform slashing weapons and some ranged weapons in almost every scenario due to the armor on the crab. Slashing users can make the best of the fight by focusing on the head, but there will certainly be more of a challenge.
