Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - How to start and level requirements

Find out how to start the new Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion so you can begin taking down new threats.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - How to start and level requirements

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is finally here and Hunters of every kind can begin taking on a list of new threats, but the quest won't start right away. To start the Sunbreak DLC itself, there are some initial requirements that everyone needs to meet, regardless of any previous progress.

The most obvious hurdle is the fact that the new expansion must be purchased if you wish to access all of the content. Even after making the purchase though, there are quest progression markers that must be met, along with certain level requirements. This guide will outline which quest needs to be completed before you begin Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, and what rank you must reach.

Before anyone can begin taking down new beasts in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, the base game essentially needs to be completed to the final fight. There is always more content to be completed after the final fight in a Monster Hunter game, the final fight ends the main story within Rise.

Most MH games have their own flagship monster that Hunters must take down to finish the story. Thunder Serpent Narwa is the final base game fight for Monster Hunter Rise, and the fight is full of rock platforming and lightning elements. This beast must be hunted and defeated before you can think about playing the Sunbreak DLC later on.

The quest that Thunder Serpent Narwa is tied to is called "Serpent Goddess of Thunder" and will pit you against the Elder Dragon in one final clash. In order to reach this quest in general, you must have access to 7-star ranked quests within the usual Hub area. Completing all of this and reaching the 7-star rank will be enough.

Back at Kamura village, you will need to look for an NPC called Rondine. This character will appear after you have completed the main Monster Hunter Rise quest and you have purchased Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. As soon as you return to the Village, Rondine will appear on the starting bridge.

Speak to the trader NPC and you will be tasked with talking to the Elder among others. They will task you with taking down a monster in the Shrine Ruins before the real fun begins. Return to the Village to initiate a few cutscenes.

When all is said and done, Sunbreak can truly begin and you will have access to the Elgado Outpost area. You'll spend most of your time here within the new expansion as you get to Master Rank monsters and above.
