Battlefield has been in a rough patch for some time, especially after the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 2042. However, the franchise's next installment might finally deliver what fans have been hoping for. A recent snippet of footage from the upcoming Battlefield title has been making waves online, sparking excitement as it appears to be a return to its BF3 roots.

As previously mentioned, Battlefield 2042 was intended to be the successor to Battlefield 5 (BF5), but it ultimately disappointed many longtime fans of the series for multiple reasons. The biggest criticism was that 2042 strayed too far from the franchise's core elements - such as its grounded combat and cinematic gameplay - both of which helped immerse players in a realistic first-person shooter experience like no other.

However, things are starting to look up for Battlefield fans. A recent trailer introducing Battlefield Labs also included a brief 10-second clip showcasing footage from the untitled follow-up to 2042, and it looks promising. The snippet features a more grounded feel and seems to be directly inspired by the series’ roots, specifically Battlefield 3.

Despite its short length, the footage quickly sparked discussions online, with players sharing their excitement. Fans on Reddit praised the return to a more modern, grounded aesthetic, with one stating, “I can smell BF3 all over this. Partial building destruction, soldiers screaming and swearing. Simply beautiful.”

Another player added, “Well, that feels like BF3 footage, which is at least somewhat promising,” while another responded, “Even the soldier models looked awesome! They actually look like legit military uniforms.”

One standout detail that caught fans' attention was the music, which seemed to be lifted directly from Battlefield 3. “The fact that they bracketed this segment with BF3 music… If it’s not an outright reboot or remake, this game may be heavily inspired by it,” another fan speculated.

Of course, as exciting as this is for Battlefield fans, it’s still just a 10-second teaser, and we can’t draw definitive conclusions until we see an actual trailer or gameplay reveal. However, we expect to hear more about this untitled Battlefield project as 2025 progresses - and whether it truly marks a return to the franchise’s roots. For now, we remain cautiously optimistic, as this could be the long-awaited revitalization the Battlefield name has needed.
