As a good old looter shooter, Outriders will start showering you with all kind of gear from the very beginning, and naturally, most of it will be unimportant gear and something you will have little use of.

That's where Outriders' crafting mechanic fits in, as it offers additional layers of strategy and possibilities to customize your character and their gear.

The game features a crafting mechanic which will let you have at least some use even from the worst weapons and give you various possibilities to improve those weapons and armour you want to use.

When you got familiar with crafting, you will find out that the game really does give you a lot of interesting options to customize and upgrade your gear.

There are several types of resources in the game which can be used either for crafting or as a currency.

  • Anomaly Shards: Used for raising bonus attributes, can be obtained by dismantling items.
  • Drop Pod Resources: You earn these after finishing Expeditions and can use them for entering the Inner Ring, the Final Expedition, or for buying special items.
  • Scrap: It is the main in-game currency that you use to buy stuff from vendors. Kill enemies and complete quests to earn Scrap, or sell items to vendors.
  • Leather: Used for crafting armour, can be obtained by killing animals or from dismantled armour.
  • Iron: Used for weapon crafting and can be obtained either by harvesting Ore veins or dismantling weapons.
  • Titanium: This is a better ore than Iron, and it can be used to improve the quality of epic and legendary items. Can be found by dismantling items of better quality or randomly dropped by stronger enemies, with a small chance to be found in ore veins as well.

How to improve weapons and armour in Outriders?

Crafting in Outriders offers players several distinctive ways in which you can improve your gear.

You can use Anomaly Shards to improve the bonus attributes of your equipment. Keep in mind that each attribute has its own crystal pool, so you will need different types of Anomaly Shards in order to improve a specific attribute.

This also means that when you dismantle an item, you will receive Anomaly Shards type which corresponds with the attribute bonuses of that weapon, which you can then use to improve other gear with the same attribute bonus.

You can also improve gear rarity, which will increase its primary stats (firepower or armour), and add an extra mod. It will also improve the bonus attribute, but the value will be raised randomly.

To improve the rarity of Common and Unusual items, you will need Iron and Leather (depending on if you are using it for weapons or armour).

You will use Titanium to improve Rare items, while Epic and Legendary items cannot be upgraded since they are of the highest rarity in the game.

You can also swap the weapon's variant to another but within that weapon's type. You will unlock different variants as you level up your character and the cost of this action depends on the level of the weapon.

Outriders item Mods

One of the key gear mechanics in Outriders are Mods, which are unique passive skills attached to your gear and which provide bonuses to your character.

Mods are interchangeable, which means you can remove and add them to your gear, except for Legendary items, which have their own unique Mods.

Weapon mods can be used by any class in the game, but armour mods are tied to the specific class.

If you want to unlock a particular mode, you can do that by dissembling an item that has that mod installed.

The mods are separated into three tiers by quality, and the quality of mods you get from disassembling items depends on the rarity of disassembled gear.

As we've mentioned earlier, Legendary gear has unique mods which can not be removed, nor new added.

And that would be it! This is all you need to know about crafting in Outriders! Now you just need to find the best equipment for you and start upgrading it to suit your needs!

Have fun playing the game and good luck hunting those legendary items!
