When it comes to Overwatch 2, one thing that the game is famously known for is the number of events that the game has. Overwatch 2 has events for Halloween, winter holidays, Valentine's Day, and so much more. But on top of these holidays, Overwatch 2 also has events on things that are based on the game's lore.
The major event that Overwatch had in the past based on the lore was the Archives event. The Archives events gave Overwatch players a deeper look into the history of the Overwatch team and what they have done. As the seasons move forward, it is now time for us to look at what the Archives event could look like for Overwatch 2.

During a developer livestream today, Blizzard revealed its Overwatch 2 roadmap for the coming months.
Despite confirmation of what's coming in Season 5, Season 6, and Season 7, including the return of the Summer Games Event and Anniversary Event, there's, unfortunately, no sign of the Overwatch 2 Archives Event.
At this stage, it certainly seems likely that Archives has been put on ice for 2023.
The Overwatch 2 Season 4 roadmap has been released by Blizzard and it doesn't look like the Archives event is returning.
Of course, Blizzard might have something else planned, but at least going off the roadmap, the event doesn't appear to be part of the plans.
Hopefully, we'll learn a bit more after Season 4 starts on April 11.
Blizzard has finally shared its first look at the new hero coming to Overwatch in Season 4.
The new support hero is named Lifeweaver, and whilst we still don't have a start time for the new season, we suspect it will start at some point in the next 7 days.
A new season also means a new Overwatch 2 roadmap, so it seems a good bet that we'll learn more about any forthcoming Archives event in April.
Is The Archives Event Coming To Overwatch 2?
At the time of this writing, there is no official announcement from Blizzard about the Archives event coming back to Overwatch 2. There are a couple of reasons why the Archives event could be coming back. As a single-player story was promised for Overwatch 2, the Archives event could run side-by-side with the release of the single-player mode.
However, that could be a reason to get rid of the Archives event as well. The original Overwatch game was never going to be a single-player game and so perhaps Blizzard saw it necessary to tell the lore of the game through the event. But now that single-player is definitely coming to Overwatch 2, the Archives event could be deemed unnecessary. There is also the fact that in 2022, there was no Archives event. We will update this page as soon as we know more.
Overwatch 2 Archives Event Start Time
At the time of this writing, we do not know when the Overwatch 2 Archives event will start. The event is not yet confirmed to be happening but as soon as we have an update on this, we will update this page accordingly.
For now, we can speculate when the Archives event will happen in Overwatch 2. Historically, the Archives event always happened in April. Around April 11th is the time when the Archives event usually starts. So be on the lookout for any updates on this event around that time.
What Happens During The Overwatch 2 Archives Event?
One of the biggest additions to the Overwatch 2 Archives event will be the PVE event that will happen during that time period. Depending on what piece of lore Blizzard wants to drop for the event, players will join a group and play as certain heroes for the event defeating enemy waves together.
It is very similar to the Junkenstein event during Halloween time. On top of the PVE mode, there are usually a lot of Legendary skins that get dropped during this time as well. Sometimes, the event can have upward to 8 new Legendary skins during the Archives event. It is one of the most popular Overwatch events of the year for a good reason.
